CMM replacing WS-X6608-T1

Good day all,

I am very new to the voice side of things, and I need some advice on something.

I have a WS-X6608-T1 in a 6509 that is running CatOS. The eventual goal for this switch is to convert it to Native IOS, so we purchased a WS-SVC-CMM. This CMM is a 6 T1 model. The problem that I have is that the 6608 is running some conference bridge 'links' (for lack of a better term).

My question is this: To do the same conference bridge stuff that I am doing on the CatOS switch on the new CMM, do I need to have the WS-SVC-CMM-ACT Port Adapter? Everything I have read indicates that I need this to do the conference bridge stuff.

Here is part of the CatOS switch card config (6608):

Port Name Status Vlan Duplex Speed Type

----- -------------------- ---------- ---------- ------ ----------- ------------

9/1 enabled 27 full - Conf Bridge

9/2 enabled 27 full - MTP

9/3 connected 27 full 1.544 T1

9/4 connected 27 full 1.544 T1

9/5 notconnect 27 full 1.544 T1

9/6 connected 27 full 1.544 T1

9/7 enabled 27 full - Conf Bridge

9/8 connected 27 full 1.544 T1

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Jake

Hi Jake,

We were recently planning on using the CMM to replace 6608 blades, for the exact CatOS to IOS upgrade path. The sad fact of the matter is that the CMM-ACT Port Adaptor is a must for Conference Bridges. Have a look;

S-SVC-CMM-ACT

The ACT port adapter, also referred to as the media card, has DSP resources for conferencing, transcoding, and media termination point (MTP) services. A CMM with an ACT port adapter supports a single conference with up to 128 participants. A single ACT port adapter supports up to 128 audio conference ports, which can be distributed among different conferences of two or more parties.

You can install CMM port adapters in the following ways:

You can install up to four port adapters on a single CMM base module. Slot 4 is reserved for the WS-SVC-CMM-ACT port adapter.

You cannot install WS-SVC-CMM-6T1 and WS-SVC-CMM-6E1 port adapters on the same base CMM module.

You can install up to four WS-SVC-CMM-ACT port adapters on the CMM base module.

You can install any other combination of WS-SVC-CMM-6T1, WS-SVC-CMM-6E1, WS-SVC-CMM-24FXS, and WS-SVC-CMM-ACT port adapters.
