Wireless Control Server (WCS) Password Recovery ?

Answered Question
Feb 2nd, 2007

Is there a way to recover/change an admin password on a WCS server, or is the best bet to uninstall/reinstall WCS. I can't find any documenation on cisco.com mentioning password recovery on WCS. Thanks!

I have this problem too.

Hi Jennifer,

I would open up a Tac case, there is a bug (listed below) that would indicate to me that Cisco may be working on this issue. The current prescribed workaround is, as you noted, uninstall/reinstall;

CSCsg46139 Bug Details

Headline WCS needs password recovery mechanism without losing database

Product wcs

Symptom:

Administrative password to WCS is lost; need to recover access.

Workaround:

Reinstall WCS.

Further Problem Description:

It would be nice to be able to recover access to WCS, after a lost password,

without losing the database.

From this WCS doc;

CSCsg46139 If you lose your WCS password and have not backed up your database, there is no mechanism to recover the password.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6305/prod_release_note09186a00807bd545.html#wp17024

Hope this helps!

Thanks very much - since I couldn't find anything - I was pretty sure uninstall/reinstall would fix it.

Jennifer,

While trying to recover WCS were you able to save the WCS database?

Thanks,

Joe
