Hi All,
I have just configured a 2950 to be a client, is there a way to change this back to server or transparent.
I did tried to by entering vlan database, but it will not go onto vlan config mode
Any help will be appreciated
thanks

When using vlan database it goes as follows:
vlan database
vtp server (or transparent)
exit
The change will be applied when exiting.

Could you post a screen containing your commands and the output with the error?

can you tell us how you have configured 2950 to VTP client?
can you try to configure VTP in config mode instead of vlan database mode and see if it works for you.
switch(config)# vtp mode server
OR
switch(config)# vtp mode transparent
HTH, rate if it does ....

After switch was configured as client ,tried
to go back in agian into vlan database config mode got error message that 'vlan configuration is not possible in client mode'
What is the normal procedure to change the vtp mode of a client.
Thanks

Hi ,
The possibility is , first remove the VTP domain name and reset the switch.
2.After booting the switch ,configure the previous VTP domain name and switch will be in server mode by defalut.
Thanks,

Hi,
Disconnect the Switch from the Network & so that it will not listen further to the Server for VTP.
Then, reset the 2950 as Client / transparent directly.
Else, remove the VTP Domain Name & rest the VTP Options...

In newer switches like the 2950 or 60 vlan configs are done at the global level , as cisco puts it they are deprecating the vlan database .
conf t
vtp mode transparent
exit
write mem
