we have three WLAN plants distributed in three sites with a total of 80 x 1000 series Access Points and 6 x 1231G AP (converted to LWAPP) and three WLC . Could anyone tell me if these APs may be managed via SNMP?? may they be configured to send traps and to get info to and from a management platform??

The AP1000 has no SNMP capabilities. All AP management in the lightweight architecture is done through the controller.

so, is the Controller which alerts to the management platform if an AP, for example, is shutdown ?? How do we know remotely, through a management platform, if an AP is not running or has been disconnected??

Cisco ditched SNMP for LWAPP because SNMP is bulky. Cisco APs keep continuous communication link with the Controller using LWAPP protocol. LWAPP makes them share responsibility through "Split-MAC" concept.

Yes. The WLAN controller is the SNMP interface for the system. You poll the controller and the controller sends out SNMP traps. WCS is the management platform for WLAN controllers. It will notify you if a radio is down. If you don't have WCS, you can build your own management apps using the published MIBs.
