CISCO 2811 supported MIBs

Unanswered Question
Feb 5th, 2007

My 2811 router is running with IOS version 12.4(3g), ADVANCED ENTERPRISE SERVICES. I used MIB Locator and found out that this version of IOS supported CISCO-IETF-IP-MIB and CISCO-IETF-IP-FORWARD-MIB. Question: How can I use my NMS to view the MIBs?

(1) What should I do in my 2811 router side?.

(2)What should I do in my NMS application side?

Here is my assumption: I need to configure community string on my 2811 router but I do not have to install MIBs on my 2811 router. I need to install MIBs and configure community string on my NMS. Is this correct? Thanks

Assumption 1: Correct. You need to configure SNMP community strings or SNMPv3 user and group settings. You never need to load MIBs on an IOS device.

Assumption 2: Correct. The MIBs _should_ be loaded on your NMS, but it is not required. SNMP can operation just fine without MIB modules, but the data might not be very understandable by humans.
