load balancing static routes

We're running Cat-6506 with MSFC in the core and are configuring 2 connections on it for each of the two upstream 3725 routers. The static routes to these routers will look like this:

10.4.0.0 255.255.0.0 172.21.16.4

10.4.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.46.26.4

We would like to load balance the traffic to the two routers and even though with static routes, there will be two "equal cost" paths, we are not sure if our router will load balance across them. We are not running any dynamic protocol or CEF on our router.

Can someone please tell me if the router will auto load balance the traffic across the two path?

thanks.

With 2 equal cost static routes you should get load balancing. If you are not running CEF then the default switching path should be fast switching which should give you per destination load balancing.

The load-balancing should work for you.Even if you dont have CEf enabled, the router will load-balance by default as per-destination.With per-destination load balacing you might not get equal distribution of load across the 2 links. If you want to acheive per packet-load-balancing use " no ip router-cache" under the interface.

Caution** If you have voice traffic going through the links, Never use Per-packet loadbalancing. This will degrade your voice traffic quality. Please use per-destination load-balancing only.
