what kind of tag it is?

Route tagging can be implemented on any routing protocol, not just BGP.

You can tag a route so other routers can make decision on how to treat that route.

You can block/allow or change AD based on a tag.

A tag can be any 32-bit numeric value. In BGP, by default, the tag is the AS number.
