DSPs not showing up on 2821

Answered Question

Weird problem...we have a few 2821s that all were ordered with the Voice Bundle. My understanding is that by default, the 2821 comes with a single PVDM2-48 for 3 DSPs. Ordering the Voice Bundle gets you (2) PVDM2-32 for 4 DSPs.

What's odd is we have a 2821 showing only one PVDM2-32. This is happening both in the "show inv" and "show diag" commands.

Is it possible they might not be showing up due to a software problem, or are they indeed not present?

Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.3(11)T9

I have this problem too.

Hi John,

Have a look at the following;

Q. Do the Cisco 2800 and 3800 series routers ship with PVDMs?

A. No, PVDMs are optional components of each of these platforms, with the exception of voice bundles that have one PVDM included.

From this good doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps5855/products_qanda_item0900aecd8016986a.shtml

We recently ordered two 2811's with the Voice Bundle and did have to order the additional PVDM's to accomodate our setup.

Hope this helps!

Ok, thanks. Under "Major new features and Enhancements", it says "Onboard and field-upgradable PVDMs" for the 2800 and 3800, which is probably where the confusion is originating. I'm taking it what they really mean is it has onboard PVDM slots, but the actual PVDMs must be ordered separately or with a package.

Does anybody know which PVDM2 module with the Voice Bundle for the 2800 and 3800 series? Just trying to verify we got what we paid for.

I'll pull the cover on this during downtime to verify, but it looks like what happend is the 2821 we ordered the extra DSPs for got installed in the wrong location.

I rarely venture into sales territory (bundles are sales packages after all) but here is the information you asked.

2801 voice bundles have PVDM2-8

2811 " " " PVDM2-16

2821 " " " PVDM2-32

2851 " " " PVDM2-48

3825 and 3845 " PVDM2-64

This is true no matter the type of bundle, voice only, voice/ccme, voice/srts, voice/security, etc.. etc..
