We are currently using VACL captures to capture and forward VLAN traffic to IDSMs in our 6509 chassis'. However, we have FWSMs performing routing for the server networks, which prevents us from getting netflow data, since the MSFC is not routing the traffic. Consequently, we would like to use netflow probes to "sniff" the traffic and export netflow to our netflow analyzer. In order to send the traffic from all of those VLANs to the probes we would also like to use VACL captures for that.
My question is with regards to the capabilities of the VACL capture on the 6500. Is there a limitation on the amount of traffic that the switch can capture? Is there a limitation of how many different destinations that you can have for your capture? I have not come across this information on the CSCO website.
Note: We prefer to use VACL capture as it seems more robust than SPAN sessions -- are we wrong in this assumption?
