Cisco 2540 is no more supported by Cisco it has reached EOL/EOS status long back and been replaced by 2600 series which too down the lane has reached EOl/EOS.
Now the latest variants of Cisco 2800 series routers are doing the rounds which are seen as a suitable replacement for 2600 series boxes.
But it also depends on the kinda connectivity you have in place in your location and the bandwidth you have subscribed from your ISP.
Your box should be in a position to handle the subscribed bandwidth capacity..
