I need to provide a quick & easy method for our service desk to swap the config of 7940 phones over after a swap out.
Is there anything I can give them ?
Thanks,
Roy

Hi Roy,
If I am following along here correctly (not always the case :) The simplest way to swap the config would be to give the "Service Desk" staff limited access to ccmadmin (try MLA)so they can use the Mac-address swap method.
Dead 7940 - Mac AAABBBCCCDDD
New 7940 - Mac EEEBBBAAACCC
Go to Device>Phone>Find Device (find Device name contains AAABBBCCCDDD)
Replace Mac with new Mac EEEBBBAAACCC
Update>Reset (config is changed to new 7940 and your good to go!)
All Device and Line settings are transferred to new 7940.
Hope this helps and I'm not way off base here!

Hi Rob,
I like your thinking there.
We did try that, but CM admin came back with ..
The MAC address you entered is already assigned to the following device(s):
SEP000xxxxxxx (new phone)
Please check the MAC address for each device and make sure it is correct.
Tried deleting the new phone then pasting in but same again.
I think it is because we are auto-assigning to make it easier to id new phones for the guys who do the swap outs.
Mmmmmmmm.......

Hi Roy,
OK :) At least we are on the same page here. You will have to stop using using the automated method for adding the new/replacement phones. When a tech is wanting to do a "swap out", just get them to call in to the Admin with the "old" and "new" Mac addresses. The admin can access ccmadmin and change the Mac's (from previous post) and by the time the new/replacement phone boots up it will be exactly the same config (Device and Line Settings) that the dead phone was using.
This is a completely seamless method, unless you type like I do :(
Hope this helps!

Rob,
Tried a "virgin" phone and the transfer worked a treat.
Cheers,

OOPS !
Just tried deleting one phone and instantly transferring the MAC address to another.
The destination phone works a treat, the one phone restarts with "Registration Rejected"
Tried erasing the config on it but no change.
Any ideas ? - Our servers still have auto-reg enabled.
Thanks,
Roy
