Hi there
We have a wlc 4400 and i have pulled the log for the error codes/events off it.
I need to decode these messages now to understand what I am seeing.
Where can I do that ?
Is there a decoder/debugger for these messages ?
for example..
Fri Feb 9 03:40:45 2007 [SECURITY] apf_rogue.c 2720: Can not change state on rogue 00:17:0f:23:b1:91
Fri Feb 9 03:39:58 2007 [WARNING] apf_80211.c 2408: Received a message with an invalid supported rate from station 00:0b:cd:5b:bc:05.
Fri Feb 9 03:39:58 2007 [ERROR] apf_utils.c 198: Missing Supported Rate.
Fri Feb 9 03:37:30 2007 [WARNING] apf_80211.c 2408: Received a message with an invalid supported rate from station 00:17:f2:e9:67:a4.
Fri Feb 9 03:37:30 2007 [ERROR] apf_utils.c 198: Missing Supported Rate.
Thanks in advance !
Best regards

Hi Olden,
it seems to me that the WLC is receiving the messages from an AP.
The message:
[WARNING] apf_80211.c 2408: Received a message with an invalid supported rate from station 00:0b:cd:5b:bc:05.
seems to indicate a problem with a device which wants to use a not supportes interface speed rate.
Lest assume a 802.11g interface on an AP which is configured for all useable speed rates except 54Mbit. Now think of a Wireless client wich wants to connect with 54 Mbit. The AP denies this speed rate and reports this to the controller.
[SECURITY] apf_rogue.c 2720: Can not change state on rogue 00:17:0f:23:b1:91
The WLC marked the AP with the MAC of 00:17:0f:23:b1:91 as rouge. Now you have to configure the MAC within the WLC as known or not known.
Btw. I do not have any documentation for this as well.
;-/
The WLC lacks a bit of information like that.
Best regards,
Frank

Hin there Frank
Thanks so much !
So am I right in saying we are denying 54Mbit connections ?
So we must change it to supported.
Are we denying 802.11g per se or just certain speed connections (54Mbit, 40Mbit etc etc) on the 802.11g protocol ?
Thanks for all the help !
Regards
Olden

I think Frank is just giving you an example, he didn't mean you guys are denying 54 Mbps connection requests from the clients.
When a client sends an association request to the AP it includes the list of supported data rates. If the AP sees any unsupported data rate in that list it will log that event. It doesn't mean that AP will deny access to the client. Even if they have (AP and client) at least one common data rate, the association process will succeed.

100% correct.
