Wireless deployment question

Hi friends,

Just some questions on a wireless implementation in a building network.

There are 8 floors in which wireless needs to be deployed in which there are not more than 25 users per floor. So, the number of users are 200. There are 32 access points (4 per floor).

The goal is to achieve wireless roaming between the AP's. The AP's are 1232AG. So I believe that same SSID is required.

Also, is there any configuration required on the AP to prevent interference between AP's in each floor?

Should I configure different channels for neighbouring AP's in each floor?

Not too sure on that.

Thanks a lot

Gautam

The same SSID is needed for seamless roaming.

Adjacent APs (in any dimension, sideways or vertical)should be on different channels to reduce interference with each other.

Do a good site survey, it's the only way you can be sure to guarantee performance and that things will work the way you wnat them to.

Good Luck

Scott

Thanks a lot Scott for your valuable inputs. So, in a floor if there are 4 AP's, then would you recommend the channels 1,6,11 and 6 again for minimal interference.

Thanks a lot

Gautam

Generally speaking, yes, that's the idea.

You'd want to keep the same channels as far apart as possible/practical.

On the next foor up / down, rotate the order so that the same channels are not "stacked" on top of each other,

Good Luck

Scott

If you are going to repeat 6 on a particular floor, make sure you restrict power on those two APs so that they won't interfere too much. For seamless roaming there should 30% overlap between adjacent coverage area.s

Thanks a lot everyone for your inputs. It was really very helpful!!
