A will start a https connection to B. Because it's using https B will send A a certificate. A checks this certficate (most browser come preloaded with root certificates from Trusted authorities like Verisign). If certificate is okay then an ssl connection is made and the pages will go from B to A.

The only traffic to the CA might be checking the Certificate Revocation List to ensure that the certificate is still valid.
