Is there a way to receive the log file generated by the router automatically via e-mail ?
So far I need to go into SDM and view it from there.

I do not believe that there is any way to have the 1712 directly email the log to you. If you have a syslog server in your network, then you can configure the router to send the log to the syslog server. Perhaps you could view the logs from the syslog server, or perhaps you can set up something on the syslog server to mail the logs to you.

I already thought that it would not be possible, but maybe I had missed an option. No, I don't have a syslog server.
Thank you for having a look at my issue.

If you're referring to the logging buffer (i.e. "show logg"), it depends on the version of IOS. As of 12.3(2)T, certain IOS feature sets include the Embedded Syslog Manager (ESM). ESM is a TCL interface to syslog messages. By creating TCL script ESM filters, you can translate syslog messages into emails directly on the router. The ESM documentation on Cisco.com lists such an example. See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5207/products_feature_guide09186a00801a8516.html for more details and http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5207/products_feature_guide09186a00801a8516.html#wp1062914 for the specific email example.

IOS version is 12.3(11)T8. I'll look closer at the two links you provided. Thank you.
