Are 3560 and 3560G are these layer3 switches ???

One more thing can we create vtp trunk between fe port on 3560 and ge port on 3560g ?? to do intervlan routing..

Thanks in advance

Hi

Yes they are capable of doing Layer3 routing.

Yes you can create a trunk between the two and the links do not have to have the same speed capabilities but you should either set both ends to auto-negotiate or hard core to 100 full.

thanks

my configuration on 3560 is

vlan10 with ip address 172.21.67.145 255.255.255.248

vlan 11 with ip address 172.21.67.201 255.255.255.248

i have enabled ip routing

I am able to communicate(ping) between vlans

I have created vtp trunk encapsulation dot1q on one fe port

On 35690G switch

I have vlan1 ip address dhcp ( which has 172.21.67.X)

I have created vtp trunk encapsul dot1q on one ge port

Do i have to connect fe port and ge port using cross cable ????

What should be my vtp mode do i need to have vtp mode tranparent or server mode ??

TIA

Hi

If you are using vlan 1 for managing the switch you should create a vlan 1 on your 3560 switch as well.

Yes you should use a crossover cable.

VTP - set your 3560 to be vtp server. Set your 3560G to be vtp client. That way all vlans you create on your 3560 will be propogated to 3560G.

Be careful when you set this up. First set your 3560G to vtp transparent. This will make sure the revision number is set back to 0. Then make it a vtp client.

still i am unable to ping from one switch to other

this is my vtp status on client

VTP Version : 2

Configuration Revision : 0

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005

Number of existing VLANs : 6

VTP Operating Mode : Client

VTP Domain Name : hyd.com

VTP Pruning Mode : Disabled

VTP V2 Mode : Disabled

VTP Traps Generation : Disabled

MD5 digest : 0x72 0x54 0x78 0xFE 0x4C 0x1C 0x52 0x26

and on vtp server i.e 3560 is

VTP Version : 2

Configuration Revision : 0

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005

Number of existing VLANs : 13

VTP Operating Mode : Server

VTP Domain Name : hyd.com

VTP Pruning Mode : Enabled

VTP V2 Mode : Enabled

VTP Traps Generation : Disabled

MD5 digest : 0xDA 0xF3 0x3C 0x6B 0xC2 0x93 0x74 0xE5

Am i missing something here ??? w

Hi

What are you trying to ping from and what are you trying to ping to.

Also:

You have a mismatch between your v2 mode. Set your vtp client to be v2 mode.

Also both configuration numbers are set to 0. Make a vlan change on the vtp server, this should bump up the config number and then the vtp client will update it's database.

thanks now the vlans created in server are getting rpopogated to client..

but still routing is the issue ..

in 3560G-vtp clint i have vlan1 where all ge port by default are present and it has ip dhcp..they all are in subnet 255.255.255.0 of 172.21.67.1

in 3560G-vtp server..i have vlan 10 ip address 172.21.67.145 255.255.255.248 basically different subnet ...

and vlan 11 172.21.67.201 255.255.255.248

i am able to ping 172.21.67.145 and 1721.21.67.201

but when i ping 172.21.67.1 its failing

also though i can see these vlans in vtp-clint when i ping 172.21.67.145 from that switch it doesnt work ...i have enabled ip routing on both the switches..

is there any solution to this ???

Hi

Okay a few things

1) You say vlan 1 subnet is 172.21.67.0 255.255.255.0. But this overlaps with vlan 10 and 11 subnet ranges. You need to change this.

2) Turn off IP routing on your 3560G.

3) After you have sorted out your addressing for vlan 1 create a vlan 1 interface on your 3560 (vtp server).

4) The vlan 1 interface on your 3560G (vtp client) is purely for management. On that switch you need to add a default gateway. This default gateway is again for managing the switch not for user traffic:

ip default-gateway "Vlan 1 address on 3560 (vtp server)"

5) Allocate the ports on the 3560 to vlan 10 or 11 for clients. Vlan 1 should be used fir managing switches only (altho strictly speaking you should another vlan for management but lets get this working first).

When you have done all this you will have the 3560 as your L3 switch and your 3560G as a L2 switch only.

If this isn't what you want let me know.

Jon

No this is not what i want ??

Again let me let me explain my requirement

Basically I want this vlan/dhcp setup for IP Phones ?

in switch2

vlan 10 has 172.21.67.145 255.255.255.248

vlan 11 has 172.21.67.201 255.255.255.248

If i connect a pc to each vlan and try to ping 172.21.67.145 or 172.21.67.202 it works

here vtp mode is server and i connect one trunl port to trunk port in switch1 which is vtp mode client

in switch2 has Ip address 172.21.67.51 255.255.255.0

if i ping 172.21.67.145 it doesnt work

sameway if i ping 172.21.67.51 from swicth2 it doesnt work is ther a way to do get this done ??
