A customer has asked us to investigate the possibility of provisioning an ATM circuit to a remote site.
The problem with this is that the telco will only deliver the circuit as IMA over 2x E1's and will also only deliver it to the hut at the base of the customer's radio tower, which is some distance from all other active equipment.
A radio link already exists from the radio tower to the main comms room where the routers are located - this provides ethernet-based connectivity plus 2x E1 side channels which support G.703 encoded E1 traffic.
Utilising the ethernet connectivity of the radio system may not be feasible.
Has anyone had success in getting IMA to work over E1 transported by such radio systems? To me this seems to be fraught with technical issues including clocking and frame compatibility.
I'm still waiting to hear from the site radio guys but any feedback or experience on this kind of setup would be appreciated.
