Hi,

I have had a major problem this evening. I have a vpn router that connects to the rest of the world. we use BGP to share routes and redistribute them into rip. Rip v1 is currently announced and our core router is only set up to receive v2. When I enabled RIPv2 it caused the network to crash and the flexwan module went down. The following is the syslog output:

Feb 15 17:17:45 dublin-msfc1 1809: *Feb 15 16:09:45 gmt: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Serial8/0/0, changed state to down Feb 15 17:18:04 dublin-msfc1 1810: *Feb 15 16:10:04 gmt: %OIR-6-REMCARD: Card removed from slot 8, interfaces disabled Feb 15 17:18:04 dublin-msfc1 1811: *Feb 15 16:10:04 gmt: %OIR-6-REMCARD: Card removed from slot 8, interfaces disabled Feb 15 17:18:13 dublin-msfc1 1812: *Feb 15 16:10:12 gmt: %CWAN_RP-3-KEEPFAIL: The WAN module in slot 8/0 is not responding to keepalives Feb 15 17:18:29 dublin-msfc1 1813: *Feb 15 16:10:29 gmt: %CWAN_RP-6-CARDRELOAD: Module reloaded on slot 8/1 Feb 15 17:18:32 dublin-msfc1 1814: *Feb 15 16:10:32 gmt: %CWAN_RP-6-CARDRELOAD: Module reloaded on slot 8/0 Feb 15 17:18:59 dublin-msfc1 1815: *Feb 15 16:10:58 gmt: %CWAN_RP-6-CARDRELOAD: Module reloaded on slot 8/1 Feb 15 17:19:02 dublin-msfc1 1816: *Feb 15 16:11:01 gmt: %CWAN_RP-6-CARDRELOAD: Module reloaded on slot 8/0 Feb 15 17:19:06 dublin-msfc1 1817: *Feb 15 16:11:05 gmt: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Serial8/0/0, changed state to up Feb 15 17:19:06 dublin-msfc1 1818: *Feb 15 16:11:06 gmt: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Serial8/0/0, changed state to up

why would rip v2 cause this crash. i disabled sending rip v2 straight away and the routing table reconverged. As you can see from the output the flexwan came back up after i did this.

1,000,000 point rating for the answer :)

Gavin,

I am suspecting it might be an IOS bug. It's difficult to imagine any other issue causing the flexwan to crash when enabling RIP v2. I did a quick search for bugs with similar symptoms and didn't find one. You may want to try another code, if that's an option. If it is not then you may have open TAC case to get answers.
