ipmBackup.tar placement

Unanswered Question

The documentation mentions ipmBackup.tar needs to be placed in the root directory of IPM, without clearly specifiying what the root directory is. Is this /opt/CSCOipm or /opt/CSCOcwbS? I vaguely recall the last time I did it, ipmBackup.tar actually needed to be placed in /opt for "ipm upgrade" to work correctly.

I have this problem too.

Your last recollection is correct. The ipmBackup.tar file needs to go into /opt (i.e. the directory that contains both the CSCOipm and CSCOcwbS subdirectories).

Does "ipm upgrade" restore a copy of /opt/CSCOipm/etc/ipm.env as well? Does it do anything more than what "ipm dbrestore" does other than taking care of version upgrade?

Yes, it restores the IPM environment variables. The underlying code for ipm upgrade is very different that ipm dbrestore. The database schema needs to be updated, package attributes need to be updated, and of course, the backed up files need to be restored.
