NetConfig-LMS2.6-Interactive "reload" command inop

I need to schedule the reload of hundreds of devices for a scheduled reload. LMS2.6's RME is not cooperating. BTW, both the RME application and the RME device packages were up to date as of last week. I have been able to DL code, and actually distribute code quite reliably for the first time with this LMS 2.6 product. I was very pleased until... I can't schedule a reload. I noticed from the job results that RME's first response to a "[confirm]" prompt is to follow with a "y", which doesn't work with IOS Catalysts (I think it works with routers though). So after research, I find I need to do an "interactive ad-hoc".

Here is my simplistic ad-hoc.

----

reload at 05:00 17 Feb 2007<R>

----

That didn't work, so I thought maybe I needed two carriage returns...

----

reload at 05:00 17 Feb 2007<R><R>

----

Well, that didn't work, lets try "CR"

----

reload at 05:00 17 Feb 2007<CR><CR>

----

Nope, that didn't work either, the device I tested this against does still not have a scheduled reload.

Below are the "Successful" job results.

---------

CLI Output

reload at 05:00 17 Feb 2007

Reload scheduled for 05:00:00 EST Sat Feb 17 2007 (in 36 hours and 33 minutes) by USERNAME-REMOVED on vty2 (10.10.0.102)

Proceed with reload? [confirm]

HOSTNAME-REMOVED#

----------

Based on the job results, it certainly seems successful. However, when I console to the device, I don't get that message after authentication, plus...

--------

HOSTNAME-REMOVED#sh reload

No reload is scheduled.

--------

As a side note, I am surprised that RME no longer has a NetConfig task to schedule reloads, I could swear that the previous version of RME had such a defined task.

Can someone advise on this problem?

I just tested this on a 3750 running 12.2(35)SE1, and it worked just fine:

reload at 05:00 17 Feb 2007

Reload scheduled for 05:00:00 EST Sat Feb 17 2007 (in 27 hours and 31 minutes)

Reload reason: 2007

Proceed with reload? [confirm]

My ad hoc template was:

reload at 05:00 17 Feb 2007

Upon subsequent login, I see:

nms-3750>show reload

Reload scheduled for 05:00:00 EST Sat Feb 17 2007 (in 27 hours and 29 minutes) by vty1 (172.18.123.25)

Reload reason: 2007

This may point to a bug in your version of IOS. If you repeat the same thing RME does manually, what result do you get? What version of IOS and on what device are you testing?

Note: RME 4.1 which will be part of LMS 3.0 will add a Reload template to Netconfig.

Well, its either brain freeze or a bug. Which do you think?

The CLI console text is from a direct SSH connection with a Cat4500/Sup4/12.2(31)SGA, entservicesk9-mz.

REMOVED#reload at 05:00 17 Feb 2007

Reload scheduled for 05:00:00 EST Sat Feb 17 2007 (in 16 hours and 51 minutes) by REMOVED on vty0 (10.10.0.161)

Proceed with reload? [confirm]

REMOVED#sh reload

This looks to be CSCse99996. This is an internally found defect, and there is no fixed image available yet. You should open a TAC Service Request so that your issue can be tracked.

Oh, BTW, when is LMS 3.0 released? I seem to be overlooking any release info from the web site. Any new very helpful functions?

LMS 3.0 is scheduled for release in May of this year. Some of the features include more device scalability (e.g. RME to support 10,000 devices), a new configurable homepage, a wizard-like workflow engine, dynamic User Tracking updates, completely client-sided Java free IPM, no more Java Plug-in in Campus Manager (we will now use Webstart), default DCR credentials, fallback credentials, Solaris 10 support, and quite a few other enhancements and bug fixes.

Now i like the sound of this :-)

Is there any further reading available ?

Is it going to be freely upgradable from LMS 2.6 or another beast (another license) completely ?

Nick

There is nothing published yet as its beta cycle is just beginning. It will not be a free upgrade from 2.6. This will be a major release, and all existing customers will have to purchase the upgrade. When it becomes orderable, you can talk to your account team about price.
