Hi, whiteford
The softwares you mention reside in different components of this router. One is bootrom, when the routers first power up , it will boot from here. The other is the flash memory, where is the real ios reside in. The software that make your router capable of routing and switching is the ios reside in falsh memory: c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-4.T4.bin

Thanks, should they be the same?

No, they cannot be the same. Their relationship can be compared to that of BIOS and WinXP for the PC.

Ok, I've been stumped. I surrender.
To me, the ios is still c837-k9o3y6-mz.123-2.XA.bin, and bootrom is stll 12.2(8r)YN.
I wonder where the line "ROM: C837 Software (C837-K9O3Y6-M), Version 12.3(2)XA, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE
SOFTWARE (fc1)" comes from? Maybe some "boot system" command in the config file? I will test this after I go home.
I don't understand what is the "Synched to technology version 12.3(1.6)T"
I kindly ask for help from other netpros.
cheers
