We are moving from Unified Messaging 4.0(3) to Unity VM Only 4.0(3). We currently have 2 locations, each with their own Unity server tied into the same offbox exchange server. Is it possible to have one unity VM only server at each location, have them be part of the same AD domain, and have the exchange database be held on only one of the servers? Or would this scenario be better served by doing failover unity servers?

Well, use of failover depends on what you're looking for - failover is a "hot standby" model and does not extend the number of users or ports active at one time so if you switched to failover you need to account for the resources needed.
Yes, two VM only servers can be attached to the same Exchange server no problem.

Thank you for your response Mr. Lindborg. In regards to your second answer, how would you go about making it work. Would you install the first location as a standard Unity VM only with onbox exchange? Then on the second location would you join the first location's domain and point to the first location's unity server for exchange storage? Thank you for your assistance.
