Catalyst 3560 Fiber Port

Answered Question
Feb 22nd, 2007

We are trying to connect a fiber port from a 3560 Switch to a HP ProCurve 8000 switch but I am not getting any activity on either port. I know both work when connected to the same HP manufacturer switch on both sides but I can't make them talk to each other. (Cisco to HP NO), (HP to HP YES). I am new with the Cisco switches but I figured they would work regardless of the device. Any thoughts? The fiber tests fine. Does the Cisco fiber port need to be enabled?

I have this problem too.

Hi

Fiber cable doesn't have cross or straight.

You need to check the following:

1. is hp/cisco switch supporting single mode, multi mode or both

2. fiber come in pair for Tx and Rx. So try to swap at one side and check

After checking these 2 things, you should be already found out where went wrong.

HTH..plz rate if help.

Cheers!

We have a site that has 20 users and a "remote" site that is about 200 Meters from the central server room with a 3560 with 1 Vlans (Voice and Computers) and is cabled with 6 strands of fiber. This remote area will only have 1 phone and it seems like a expensive cost to add an 8 or 24 port switch. We thought we could connect an additional phone via the Gigabit port and use a Fiber to Ethernet converter to run a 7940 phone. We tried connecting the Gbic connector of the Catalyst to the HP Gigabit (already have so a cost savings) fiber connector but there is no link light.

My thoughts are.

1. The gigabit port on the Catalyst isn't enabled?

2. The gigabit connector does not like the HP Fiber connector?

3. Will the Fiber to Ethernet work for a single phone?

Hope this helps clarify our problem.

Thanks
