QoS service-policy Config

Unanswered Question
Feb 23rd, 2007

Hi ,

I have basic question in terms of applying qos policy.

when implementing qos policy we have to take one way or it bidirectional traffic flow ,

if it is bidirectional we have to apply

"service-policy out" on the both incoming and outgoing interface on the router/switch so that it will cover onward and return flow.

but most of the documents I can see only considering one way traffic flow

for eg "A to B not B to A"

Is my understanding is correct?

Regards,

Rajesh.

I have this problem too.

Regarding the second question of applying the service-policy out, it should be applied only on the outgoing interface i.e. the interface through which your packet traverses from a->b. Well the qos also needs to be applied at the other end i.e. from b->a direction again on the outbound direction. These things are specific to what you want to achieve but i guess i have answered ur queries.

Hi,

Hi,

let's take this for explanation

host A--router--hostB

if we consider igress interface f0/0 and egress interface f0/1 on router.

I am sure we have to apply service-policy on the egress interface f0/1( this will cover flow A -> B

as a best practice do we need to apply on other interface f0/0 which is egress interface for return traffic flow B -> A ?

Rajesh
