Outbound to the PSTN Caller ID Issues.

I have an AS5300 Gateway that has no problems with the Caller ID delivery from the PSTN to the SIP service, but I am having problems delivering Caller ID from the SIP out to the PSTN.

I have implemented and tested the translation rules and also debugged the ISDN, so the number is being delivered with the correct amount of digits and matches the numbers allocated by the service provider.

The best clue I got was that they recieved the number in the correct format, but in from of the number was the character "u" with two dots over the top.

zahmed Tue, 02/27/2007 - 17:29

Hi Lindsay,

Let me see if I get the problem description right. Are you saying that a PSTN user does not get the callerID for a call from one of your SIP IP phones? And instead it sees that u character with dots on its display?

Are you talking about the callerID/ANI particularly, or probably the name associated with that?

From your description it sounds like you are seeing the 'calling party number' in the outgoing ISDN Q931 SETUP packet when you run 'debug isdn q931'. If thats the case, to me it sounds like it might not be anything to do with your AS5300 gateway because it seems to be delivering the callerID to the PSTN and then it would be the PSTN to deliver it to the final destination. But in any case, please upload 'debug isdn q931', 'debug voip ccapi inout'.

Also please let me know the IOS version you have on this AS5300.

Thanks and Regards,

~Zulfiqar

L.Druett Tue, 02/27/2007 - 18:49

That's correct - the u character doesn't come on the display of the callee because it got blocked at the provider's end, but that is what came up when the analyser was put on, that was exactly what came through.

I am talking CallerID/ANI particulary.

Debug information can be found here...

zahmed Thu, 03/01/2007 - 16:48

Lindsay,

079583921 is the ANI which I am seeing in the "Calling Party Number" field in the outgoing SETUP. So with that, its upto the telco now to actually honour this ANI and deliver it to the final destination.

One thing you could try is match Plan and Type of the outgoing calls (in case of non-working-CLID) with the Plan and Type of incoming calls (where CLID does get delivered). So for instance, for your outgoing calls, your Plan and Type right now are both Unknown :

Calling Party Number i = 0x0081, '79583921'

Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown

Called Party Number i = 0x80, '078435781'

Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown

But your Plan and Type for inbound calls is ISDN and National :

061502: Feb 28 15:40:14.872 NZST: ISDN Se0:15 Q931: RX <- SETUP pd = 8 callref = 0x1F43

Bearer Capability i = 0x9090A3

Standard = CCITT

Transfer Capability = 3.1kHz Audio

Transfer Mode = Circuit

Transfer Rate = 64 kbit/s

Channel ID i = 0xA18382

Preferred, Channel 2

Progress Ind i = 0x8283 - Origination address is non-ISDN

Calling Party Number i = 0x2180, '78495361'

Plan:ISDN, Type:National

So configure the following under your D channel or interface Ser0:15 and see if it works:

isdn map address *.* plan isdn type national

If it still does not work, I would suggest to check with the telco as well.

Thanks and Regards,

~Zulfiqar

Hey thanks Zulfigar,

Ypur suggestion helped a lot, the configuration that I used ended up being

isdn map address 7.* plan isdn type national

And the resulting output from debug isdn q931 is

000216: Mar 3 13:39:09.760 NZST: ISDN Se0:15 Q931: TX -> SETUP pd = 8 callref = 0x0084

Bearer Capability i = 0x8090A3

Standard = CCITT

Transfer Capability = Speech

Transfer Mode = Circuit

Transfer Rate = 64 kbit/s

Channel ID i = 0xA9839E

Exclusive, Channel 30

Calling Party Number i = 0x2181, '79583921'

Plan:ISDN, Type:National

Called Party Number i = 0xA1, '078435781'

Plan:ISDN, Type:National

With looks to me being the desired output...

Unfortunately, I am not dealing with a cooperative service provider so it's guess work from here.

They tell me it's meant to be ISDN/National, they also tell me that the fault is at my end and that's where it stops.

*Finally*... I spoke to someone who knew what *she* was talking about and fixed the problems.

As I originally asked, they weren't allowing the DDIs to be presented, so they were being blocked off.

Adding the isdn map address 7.* isdn type national did make a tidier presentation and she was very complimentry about that, but either way it should have worked.

Thanks for your help, I gave 5 points in one of your replies.

Again, thankyou very much for your help.

Dear Ahmed,

My issue concerns with an MGCP configured AS5400/12.4(12).

Our scenario is: (Cisco gateway)-SIP/H.323-(3rd party Call Agent)-MGCP-(AS5400)-SS7-(PSTN). I would like to use G.729 Annex A codec for all calls in the network but I am not able to get the AS5400 to work with. After eximining MGCP messages between the CA and AS5400 I think this latter give wrong responses. Thus in SDP body of a CRCX CA requests a call based on G.729 Annex A. It is given with annexb=no option based on RFC3555 but in AS5400 responses this option is missing which yields G.729 Annex B by default. This is not the expected behaviour.

On the second hand as the FM packages (RFC3660) is supported (can be configured but any documentation) in 12.4(12) IOSs I have tried to insert annexb=no option into LCO of CRCX messages but same results.

Anyway all these responses lets me know that AS5400 only supports G.729 Annex B.

Regarding G.729 standard which voice codecs are supported by AS5400? If G.729 Annex A is also supported how should I send the CRCX messages and configure the AS5400?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

I have an AS5800 with Dial Shelf Controller running IOS 12.3(6) and wish to add AS58-1CT3/216U linecards.

Will the chassis support these cards.

zahmed Tue, 02/27/2007 - 17:54

Hi Phil,

I believe AS58-1CT3/216U linecards are only supported in AS5850s. So you won't be able to use them in your AS5800s.

I have an AS5850 gateway with a channelized T3 card. I have a NFAS PRI group setup on the first four T1's and I have 8 NI PRI's setup on T1's 5 thru 12.

Can I connect the 8 PRI's to the 4 Nfas PRI's for consolidation?

I'm using IOS 12.3

zahmed Thu, 03/01/2007 - 17:02

Steve,

You can not set this up on your end only unilaterally. Telco has to set up and provision things accordingly on their switch because the D channel on the switch needs to know how many PRIs its going to be controlling. So if you want to consolidate all 12 PRIs in one NFAS group, make sure its first taken care of at the switch side.

Thanks and Regards,

~Zulfiqar

skohls1960 Fri, 03/02/2007 - 07:10

After reviewing the documentation again. The fuction that I'm trying to do can not be done on the AS5850 between PRI's it can only be done with TDM trunks.

I was trying to cross connect PRI's. The AS5850 doesn't perform PRI switch operations to CPE. In other words I can not build a PRI to a PBX from the AS5850. I can only build PRI's from the AS5850 to the switch.

Thanks for your time.

We have a AS5300 loaded with MICA modems and 4xT1 card. POS terminals dialup to the AS5300 and fork a telnet stream to a host target HOST_A on a specific port. Here is a snippet of how my lines are configured

ip host HOST_A 1075 192.168.1.2

!

modemcap entry POS_TERMINAL:MSC=&F&D2S0=0S15=0S21=0S22=0S23=0S24=0S29=4S30=2400S31=1200S52=0S53=0S54=32968S64=10

no motd-banner

no exec-banner

exec-timeout 0 0

no flush-at-activation

no vacant-message

modem InOut

modem autoconfigure type POS_TERMINAL

autocommand telnet HOST_A /stream /noecho /quiet

no activation-character

transport input all

transport output all

escape-character NONE

dispatch-timeout 1500

My problem is that the AS5300 sends several extra DEL (Delete) characters which cause the POS terminal to reject transactions. Below is the output of a capture from a RS232 protocol analyzer

I believe these delete characters are part of the telnet protocol specs, but I could be wrong, because the "stream" option should send the data in a raw tcp stream. Anybody have any ideas on how to remove the extra DEL characters from the stream or maybe there is another way to do this without using the "modem autoconfigure" option.

zahmed Thu, 03/08/2007 - 16:53

Hi Matteo,

To me it sounds like your TCP server (HOST_A) is not expecting raw TCP (aka TCP clear) from the AS5300, and instead it only does telnet. So try your autocommand without the /stream option and see how it goes.

In order to see whether its really expecting telnet, you could do a "telnet HOST_A /debug" from the AS5300 and see if you get telnet options negotiations back.

Calltracker log messages?

I have enable calltracker and have set Calltracker call-record terse quiet. Sometimes sylog works and sometime it stops. I disable and enable calltracker and nothing. I reboot and it works. I would also like to prvent calltracker messages in Log buffer. Should quiet do this If so why do I still see messages.I thought I stopped it but a few days later is was back. Any suggestions?

zahmed Fri, 03/09/2007 - 11:44

Hi Jim,

Actually no - the quiet option does not stop calltracker output from going into log buffers. It only stops it from displaying on console :

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk36/technologies_tech_note09186a00800ae938.shtml

I believe you will have to configure "logging buffered 5" in your global config to make sure calltracker output does not go to the buffers.

If you still think its working intermittently, I would recommend you open up a TAC case on that for further troubleshooting.

Thanks and Regards,

Dear Zulfiqar,

The oid i usually use to graph the active calls on an as5400 HPX does not work on an as5400 XM could you please write me the active calls OID and dial-peer active connections OID for an as5400 XM ?

zahmed Thu, 03/08/2007 - 17:01

Hi Farshid,

I believe you would need the fix for the following software defect :

CSCsf22079 : cpmDS1ActiveDS0s not populated correctly on AS5400XM

So use the same OID but try that in 12.4(13) and see if it works.

Thanks and Regards,

~Zulfiqar
