A question about setting keepalive

Answered Question
Feb 25th, 2007

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to setting keepalive to ports on a switch?

eg.. setting keepalive for 10sec on port16 on a 2924 switch?

I have this problem too.

By default is enabled to 10 sec. No need to change the value. It doesn't degrade the performance. Ofcourse if you reduce the timer there is more load on it.

When you set no keepalives your port stays UP. When you do set keepalives usually 10sec by default, the port would keep checking if your PC is online every 10 sec.

ahh, thanx much appreciated.

So by issuing the keepalive (time), would that degrade switch performance or not?
