We have a Cat 6000 switch on which there is a WS-X6608-E1 8-port gateway.
3 ports are being used as gateways.
5 ports are being used as transcoders/media termination points.
My query is whether we can temporarily take one transcoder port and convert it to a gateway.
Is it possible to do this?
How can we find out what the impact will be on the remaining transcoders?
How can we reconfigure this?

Hi Moiz,
This is very possible. You could take out/change 1 of the MTP/Transcoding ports to a Gateway port and change it back if required. Here are 3 good 6608 docs that should help;
How to Use Cisco CallManager to Configure a Catalyst WS-X6608-T1 Port as a T1 VoIP Gateway
WS-X6608-T1/E1 Digital Gateway Card on the Catalyst 6000 Platform Problem Resolution

Hope this helps!

To add to Rob's excellent post, you can tell how busy your transcoders are with show port voice active X/X. Do this a few times during your busiest call hour for all your transcoders and you will get a good idea of the impact of removing one.
RTMT would also provide this information. Open Performance Monitoring and select Cisco Trancode Devices > Resource Active for each of your transcoders.

Thanks a lot to Rob and Dave. I am working with my client to see the outcome.
