CiscoWorks: running out of diskspace on solaris

I'm running a ciscoworks installation on a solaris 2.8.

My problem is that /opt is running out of space. It is 100% full. I have pruned out old devices no longer in use. I have lowered the number of days that ciscoworks will keep logs. That did not help.

Under /opt/CSCOpx/ it is the directory

databases and backup that are the largest.

My questions are:

1. Can i move /opt/CSCOpx/backup to another partition?

2. Under /opt/CSCOpx/databases/rme i have the following files:

drwxr-x--- 2 casuser casusers 512 Apr 8 2005 orig

-rw------- 1 casuser casusers 1899397120 Feb 28 13:06 rme.db

-rw------- 1 casuser casusers 163840 Feb 28 13:06 rme.log

-rw------- 1 casuser casusers 463089664 Feb 24 02:57 syslog.db

Is there a way i can compress any of these files?

Yes, I'd suggest you create another partition , dd the files, and leave a symbolic link over to the new disk space.

You also might find that you /var/adm/CSCOpx fills up too depending on how much syslog traffic you get.

Planning for gobs of disk before you install is preferable. I run two clusters of Ciscoworks with around 5K devices in each.

Like Andy says its a good idea to add more disk space. If you run out of space it can severely impact the application and its databases. So much, that you may have to reinstall.

Adding disks is a long term solution. I inherited this installation and it seems to me that the best solution is to reinstall both the OS and cw2k. Unfortunately the other partitions are quite full.

What i was looking for was a shot term solution which could save the day. What i did was to move two compressed files to another partition. The files i moved was:

/opt/CSCOpx/backup/idu/cm/3.3.9.tar.Z

/opt/CSCOpx/backup/idu/rme/3.5.9.tar.Z

Those two was almost 1 Gb of data.

I really appreciate your suggestions and would still like to hear from you if there are other smart ways of reducing the the disk space cw2k uses.

What is the total space available in /opt? Any other applications installed there?

Just to point out what others missing. You may try to clear the logs which can grow till your HDD full.

LMS has this utility called logrot.pl which stand for log rotation. Not sure how to use in Solaris though as my domain knowledge is Window$. You can check it out and try to clear your logs which can save your days.
