I did an upgrade of a 3.5(1) system to 4.0(4)SR1 and ran into a bit of a problem. The upgrade completed and the system is running but SQLServer was consuming most of the CPU and the system was running terribly slow. We assume the system was busy converting the Historical data and found that by stopping the Historical 3.x datastore, the CPU load went down. We had left the system alone for a couple hours with Historical 3.x running and it did not complete.
This is a single server cluster so it is running MSDE. We did also replace the server hardware as part of the upgrade. The new server is HP DL380 with 3GB of memory.
At this time, the system is running fine with the Historical 3.x datastore stopped. I?m wondering if we can just start it up again over the weekend to see if it completes. Alternatively we are willing to loose the old data. Can I simply remove the Historical 3.x datastore?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
