Our CCM and Unity systems are very under patched. How do I start to know what patches need installation and where to begin? Are there any 'catch-all' patches to bring systems up to date?
CCM System is 4.0(1)sr2a, Admin is 4.0(0.333). Server is W2K SP4
Unity is 4.0(3). SQL i think is 2000, Exchange is 2000. Server is W2K SP3.

Start by taking a look at the following links. You will need a CCO login to access the links. You will want to upgrade to the latest OS/Service Release combination, CCM service release, and Unity service release compatible with your system. If your contract/budget allows, you might also think about upgrading to newer versions of CCM/Unity which can be found at the last link below.

Thank you everyone who helped. I was able to successfully update both CCM and Unity for the DST change and brought things back to date.
All the suggestions pretty much summed up the process. One issue I ran in to because I didn't see any thing documented about it was upgrading the Unity-CM TSP application.
Without this update users MWI lights were remining lit after listeneing to new messages. Only a manual MWI refresh from Unity would clear the light. The version installed was incompatiable with my new Unity/CCM version combo. Once the TSP update was installed, things were back to normal.
With the new device loads there are some issues that have come up, but I will post new conversations regarding these. Otherwise everything is great. Next stop, CCM 5 (eventually).
Thanks again.

What is the OS that your CCM server is running? On the server go to Start --> Cisco OS version.
The latest OS is 2000.4.4a SR4.
First of all we need to verify if your server supports the OS 2000.4.4a, if you check the
Release Notes for that OS you will see that the supported servers are the following:
 Cisco MCS 7815-I1
 Cisco MCS 7815-1000
 Cisco MCS 7815I-2000
 Cisco MCS 7815I-3000
 Cisco MCS 7825I-3000
 Cisco MCS 7825H-3000
 Cisco MCS 7825-H1
 Cisco MCS 7825-I1
 Cisco MCS 7825-I2
 Cisco MCS 7825-H2
 Cisco MCS 7835H-3000
 Cisco MCS 7835I-3000
 Cisco MCS 7845H-3000
 Cisco MCS 7845I-3000
 Cisco MCS 7835-H1
 Cisco MCS 7835-I1
 Cisco MCS 7845-H1
 Cisco MCS 7845-I1
If you have one of this servers then you can install first the OS 2000.4.4a which can be
found on this link:
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cmva-3des
You need this file:
win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-4-4a.exe
The Readme notes are on the same link.
Then you can upgrade to OS 2000.4.4a SR4 which is also on the same link with his readme
notes
You need this file:
win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-4-4a-sr4.exe
For your Unity server you just need to take a look to the following link:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_unity/cmptblty/msupdate.htm

Both servers are MCS 7825H-3000.
CCM OS version is 2000.2.4, patch version is 2000.2.6.
Am I able to install the 4.4a file right away? I don't need to go to 4.3 then 4.4?
02-28-2007 02:49 PM
You will have to install OS 2000.2.7 before installing 2000.4.4. Check the installation doc of 2000.4.4 (this is applicable to 2000.4.4a as well)

So to get things up to date at first, i need to install OS upgrades in this order:
win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-2-7.exe
win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-4-4a.exe
win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-4-4a-sr4.exe.
Once this is done, I need to upgrade to at least CCM 4.1, because 4.0 isn't supported by the DST fix?
03-06-2007 05:16 AM
That is basically correct. After the OS upgrade, you will need to upgrade to CCM 4.1(3) or 4.2(3) and then apply the 8.2(1) phone load or the device pack for this release and apply the Callmanager DST update. Take a look at the following link.

What's the difference between CallManager 4.2(3) and Unified CallManager 4.2(3)?
I haven't yet found a download for std. callmanger, but when looking at the docs about installing the CSA app, there are two docs: one for regular CCM and one for Unified CCM.

There is no functional difference. The name of the product was changed for marketing purposes and now is being changed again to Unified Communications Manager.
Hope this helps.

According to my CCM I run 4.0(1)sr2a.
Is that the same as 4.0(2a)? Looking at the compatibility matrix, http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_callmg/ccmcomp.htm
it seems that to go to 4.2(3), I first would need to go to at least 4.0(2a) before going ot 4.2(3). Am I reading this right?
03-07-2007 10:56 AM
No, these are not the same. You are correct that you would need to upgrade to at least 4.0(2a) before upgrading to 4.2(3).

To upgrade Unity: currently its W2kSP3, Unity 4.0(3), Exchange 2000 SP3, SQL MSDE 2000 SP3.
I just install the SP4 upgrade from Windows, recommended windows and exchange patches from Cisco list, and done?
Ver. 4.0(3) is current enough?
03-08-2007 11:24 AM
4.0(3) is current enough to address the DST updates. You will also need to update the JRE. Be sure to take a close look at the following link as well as the readme file included with the Unity DST download.

Alright. So here's my plan for my Call Manger, let me know if I'm missing amything or wrong on anything. I was confused before, I do have CSA on my CCM, but not on Unity. The version on CCM is 4.0.1.539 (i think).
CCM:
First upgrade OS:
win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-2-7.exe
win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-4-4a.exe
win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-4-4a-sr4.exe
Then upgrade CCM:
ciscocm-fmu.4-0-2a.exe
ciscocm-ffu.4-2-3.exe
ciscocm-4.2.3-DevPack-13.exe
Apply DST patch:
ciscocm.4-1-3-2007-DST-Update.1-0-1.exe.
Please let me know if I'm missing anything or out of order. Not too sure about if SQL needs updating (2000 SP3).
Thanks so much for the help!
