WiFi crossover connections?

Unanswered Question
Feb 28th, 2007

I've just been asked a jolly interesting (to me!) question, which is, can two devices equipped with WiFi cards (my two laptops each have Aironet350's) communimacate directly with each other as if by crossover cable, or does there need to be a WAP in the vicinity?

I have this problem too.

Hi there,

You can accomplish this by establishing an AD-HOC connection between both laptops, this mode is supported by your Aironet 350 LAN adapter as stated below:

Q. Can I run two computers together without an access point?

A. From the Aironet Client Utility (ACU) or Aironet Desktop Utility (ADU), configure the clients to run in ad-hoc mode. This is only a peer-to-peer connection. One PC becomes the parent, while the other becomes the child.

The CB20A does not support ad-hoc mode. However, the CB21AG or PI21AG does, but only in the 802.11b mode.

HTH, please rate if it does,
