can I upgrade 2511

Hi;

I just got 2511 router/ access server..I have lot off questions about this one.

1- can I upgrade the memory and what type of ram( is it the same as the one in the pc?

2- can I upgrade the ios and where to got it from

3- can I use the 2511 as just router only

that is it for now .. the present ISO is 11.something.

1- yes you can and no it is not.

2- you can upgrade the ios and you get it from cisco.com of course. You need a support account to be able to download ios.

3. yes you can.

Thanks for the reply. now what kind of ram to do I need and is it realy needed for ccna perparation , same question regarding ios do I realy needs to upgrade . this is just for my ccna for now.

The 2500 ram looks like the old dimms used for 386/486 pc's but those will not work. You need to buy it from cisco's used equipment dealers or ebay.

You should upgrade to 12.x software.
