subnet prb

dear all, i got an an ip address 10.73.0.0 there is no specific subnet mask given, now for my h.o i need to get 256 diff subnetworks, and each subnet should be able to take 254 hosts. and i've 20 diff remote locations also.

so i want to utilise subnets from this 10.73.0.0 in these 20 location's, in one location there will be 3 vlans and hosts should be 128 no's. so for 20 locations say 20*3 = 60 subnets.

how can i achieve that thru subnetting.

i will rate all the posts.

Information:

Given IP Address = 10.73.0.0 (no subnet mask)

Head Office needed # of networks = 256

Head Office needed # of hosts per network = 254

Remote Locations = 20

Needed # of VLAN per Remote Location = 3

Needed # of hosts per VLAN in Remote Location = 128

Solution:

1. Proposed IP Address

10.72.0.0/15 = 10.72-73.0.0/16

2 Head Office IP Address

10.72.0.0/16 = 10.72.0-255.0/24

256 Subnets (/24 each) and 254 hosts per subnet

3. Remote Locations

10.73.0.0/18 = 10.73.0-63.0/24

64 Subnets (/24 each) and 254 hosts per subnet.

NOTE: We can't get exact 128 number of hosts per subnets, therefore we use /24 per subnet. /25 is maximum 126 hosts.

4. Spare Subnets

10.73.64.0/18

10.73.128.0/17

Dear medan,

thanks for your reply.

i can see that for H.O 10.72.0.0/16 is given, but i got only 10.73.0.0 address.

can you give the network address also for these.

Hi you mentioned that you were given an IP Address of 10.73.0.0 without subnet mask. Since you also need IP Address in remote locations, I assume that the subnet mask for 10.73.0.0 is not /16. However, if you want to use 10.73.0.0 in Head Office, just switch the two IP Address as in;

1. Proposed IP Address

10.72.0.0/15 = 10.72-73.0.0/16

2 Head Office IP Address

10.73.0.0/16 = 10.73.0-255.0/24

256 Subnets (/24 each) and 254 hosts per subnet

3. Remote Locations

10.72.0.0/18 = 10.72.0-63.0/24

64 Subnets (/24 each) and 254 hosts per subnet.

NOTE: We can't get exact 128 number of hosts per subnets, therefore we use /24 per subnet. /25 is maximum 126 hosts.

4. Spare Subnets

10.72.64.0/18

10.72.128.0/17
