Hi

I am thinking of setting up a san on my network, my question is how do i start?

Look here:

A SAN can be very complex but also very easy...

Look here for the specific types of SAN'S

I don;t know what kind of SAN you wantto build ... but I suggest if its just for home see the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storage_area_network#SANs_in_a_Small_Office_.2F_Home_Office_.28SOHO.29 section

can anyone give me a simple explanation on this ?

just take a PC with 1 network card and put linux on it with 2 or 3 harddisks on it.

Use NFS/CIFS and you have yourself a little NAS :-)

i thought you have 2 network cards, 1 would be the lan, the other would be for the san network?
