You are going to need some knowledge of the commands from both os to convert . some of these might help. I have heard the conversion utility is mediocre at best .

I'm gonna chime in and mention the gotcha that nailed me in my first Sup720 install and quite a few others I'm told also. Cisco documentation states that you require the High Speed Fan Tray for the Sup720's however different docs give different part numbers and such for this. Make sure that you have the 6509's FAN-2 Module. One document actually lists the part number for the 6506 in the 6509 grid. So just be careful and make sure you have all your i's dotted and t's crossed. Due to the fan tray upgrade this is not a seem less upgrade and will require chassis downtime.
Good Luck

Hi Ali
One other thing i would mention in addition to the fan tray as mentioned is that you might well need to upgrade your power supplies. At a minimum you will 2300W power supplies whereas the Sup1A will happily run on 1800W.
