proxy as

Someone ask me about proxy AS. Haven't heard it before and didn't see any doc about it.

But I have a theory that it's like this:

Router1 is running BGP AS1

Router1 has route-map configuration for AS2 to make it look that AS1 is peering downstream with AS2

Router1 is now proxying for AS2.

Router1 is advertising both AS1 and AS2 to its upstream and make it look that AS1 is a transit for AS2.

Has anyone heard it before? Any idea what it is?

hi medan,

hope you are talking about proxy community community.

a community that can carry another

community to be attached to a route when it is sent to a distant AS.

We call this the BGP Proxy Community Community. Abstractly, a Proxy

Community Community value can be thought as a tuple (A1, A2, c),

which represents a request directed at AS A1 to send community c to

AS A2 when the associated route is sent to AS A2.

This link could help u.

Hi,

Thanks for replying. But I don't think its the same. What happen is the giant internet provider doesn't want this customer to transit to them directly, so they ask this customer to find some small provider to "proxy" their AS for them.
