new core switch to replace 4006

we have a 4006 with a supervisor 3 engine, 2 fibre modules and one gigbait ethernet module and the rest with standard 10/100 modules. This unit recently went pop and we had it replaced under our existing smartnet agreement. I have now been tasked with purchasing an additional new switch to replace our exisitng unit. What would the equivalent be now? or perhaps more usefully what considerations do we need to make in order to spec up a good switch? must layer 3 switch at least- thanks

Hello,

You can go for 4506 or 4507R.Both the chassis support 5 payload slots. The difference between them is the 4507R supports Sup Engine redundancy and provides you sub-mili second failover between the sup's. However there is no scalability left in the above solution as the chassis will be full.

My Suggestion for you would be look for Cat6509 with Sup32 engine. This will support more payload slots, more scalability easy migration to 10GE in future.

HTH,Please rate if it does.
