Hi all,

I need to plan a LAN design. I must select stack switches as a core, because a request for the company. I need a switch port with 48 1000 ports (ethernet) and I need to plug at least 7 optical cables (2x). I don't know which switch I could select between 4948 series and 3750 series.

I think after selecting the switch I must acquire another rack for the fiber.

Please help me, I will rate all the good sugestions.

I have this problem too.

4948 switches does not support stacking.4948 is specially designed for server switching connectivity. You have to go for 3750 switches. If you need only 48 10/100/1000 ports and 7 fiber ports, you can go for new 3750-E series switches.

You can take 3750-G 48 10/100/1000 switch and a 3750-12G switch from the old 3750 series and stack them together using the cisco stacking cable. This should suffice your need.

Let me know if you have some other requirement and will try answer your query.

ok thanks.

I had a meeting yesterday. They change their point of view. They want basically in the core stack switch, but just for fiber no UTP.

They sugest me to have a look for 1 or 2 switches with 14 or more ports which I could plug optical cables.
