I have a customer currently running CCM 4.1. They have just purchased Unified Call Manager 5.0 appliance. Does anyone know if it is possible to use DMA to get the existing database off the CCM 4.1 server and to import it onto the new appliance? Any help or suggestions for a successful upgrade would be very much appreciated.

Hi Tracey,
Yes, you should be just fine with using DMA for the 4.1 to 5.1 process. Have a look;
DMA migrates data for Cisco Unified CallManager and Cisco Emergency Responder, as specified in the following sections.
DMA assists you with the first step in migrating Cisco Unified CallManager data from versions 4.0(x) and 4.1(x) to Cisco Unified CallManager 5.1(1) by backing up this data in a format that Cisco Unified CallManager 5.1(1) can read. Cisco Unified CallManager 4.1(x) runs in a Windows environment, and Cisco Unified CallManager 5.1(1) runs in a Linux environment, so DMA exports Windows-based data to a format that Linux can import. The Cisco Unified CallManager 5.1(1) installation process converts the backed up data as needed for Cisco Unified CallManager 5.1(1), which completes the data migration.
DMA saves the data that it exports in a tape archive (TAR) file in a location that you specify.
You must install and run DMA on the Cisco Unified CallManager publisher server before you upgrade to Cisco Unified CallManager 5.1(1). If you make any Cisco Unified CallManager configuration changes after running DMA, the system does not retain these changes when you upgrade.

Hope this helps! CCM 5.1 may also be a better choice here anyways :)

Tracey,
You can run DMA to migrate the database to 5.0. These steps may help.
a. Take BARS backup of existing publisher
b. Install Callmanager Upgrade utility and run it until all errors are fixed
h. Install DMA (latest version) ? This will need to match up with the version of 5.0 you are installing. If CM 5.0 version is 5.0(4), then download DMA version 5.0(4)
i. If DMA throws out errors, you may have to call TAC (1-800-553-2447)
j. DMA outputs the database into a tar file. Store this tar file in a usb drive or in a server that can run SFTP or FTP
k. Install 5.0 on the new server and in the wizard, select Windows upgrade. This will let you specify the ip address of remote SFTP or FTP server and data location and pull the tar file down.
l. The 2 nodes (publisher and subscriber) and the phone counts (converted into DLUs) will show up in the License Unit report page in Callmanager after the upgrade.
m. This license file needs to be sent to Cisco licensing (licensing@cisco.com) along with mac address of publisher to get a new permanent license.

Tracey,
Good luck on the migration and thanks for the 5.

Just unpacked my new call manager 5 to discover that it is version 5.1 and not 5.0, which was on the equipment list I received. Unfortunately, the readme file link for DMA51 actually takes me to the release notes for CCM5.1. I am trying to find out if I can upgrade from 4.1 to 5.1 using DMA.
Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Tracey

Thanks Rob. I have not got off to a good start. I have an MCS-7835-I2. When I power it on, I get as far as "configuring kernel parameters [ok]" and no further. I was wondering if it was something to do with the mouse and keyboard. I have tried these in usb ports at the back and front of the server but can't seem to get any further. My colleague working next to me has an MCS-7825-H2 which booted straight into the configuration wizard. I have 5.1 appliance as previously mentioned, while my colleague has a 5.0 appliance. If you have any suggestions as to why my server won't boot, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much for your help so far.

Hi I'm curious to know how you made out with this.
03-27-2007 09:24 AM
Tracey,
since its an I2, it should have 72 gig hard drives. Can you confirm ? Is this a new server or existing server ? If its an appliance, you dont need the CD to boot, because as soon as you fire up the server, it should boot to the install wizard which is imaged into the hard drive of the server.

Just a quick update. I arrived at my customer's site to discover their existing call manager is on 3.2(3). I have been working on getting this up to 4.1(3) so I can use DMA. I ran the install wizard on the new server out of curiosity and then had a problem browsing with the documented url http://
Thanks to all for your help. I will let you know when I finally have this new server built. Don't hold your breath though!

Hi,
I have the same problem with Cisco Unified Call Manager 5.1. Any suggestions how to fix this? I tried a complete reinstall and I am still getting to that point:
