zero-port scheduled meeting vs floater port

Hi,

MeetingPlace Express 1.2.

The customer wants to setup a continuous meeting with no-reserved port but no limit of users joining it.

We create a group and change the parameter for this group as per the documentation, and created a zero-port meeting for this:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6533/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080787fda.html#wp1069461

However, this meeting only allows 2 participants to join. If we change the default floater-port from 2 to 3, then the meeting can allow three people to join.

I think the result of the test is conflict to the definition of zero-port meeting which allows all the avialiable voice ports to join the meeting. But somehow it related to the number of floater ports.

Can anyone explain to me what's wrong on this or I missed?

Thanks,

JJ

Hi JJ,

The name Zero-Port Meeting is a bit of a misnomer :) It really means that there are no reserved ports. The Zero-Port meeting is dependant on the # of available Floater Ports as you have discovered.

Voice floater ports are voice ports that cannot be reserved while scheduling meetings. Instead, floater ports are set aside for unexpected port needs, for example, when users try to take the following actions:

Joining a voice meeting with more participants than reserved ports

**Joining a zero-port voice meeting

Starting or joining a reservationless meeting

When any of these events occur, any voice ports that are not reserved or in use at that time can be used as voice floater ports.

Configure the number of voice floater ports in the Floater ports field of the Meeting Configuration page. Remember that configuring voice floater ports reduces the number of ports that are available for scheduling meetings

From this doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6533/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080787fda.html#wp1082133

Hope this helps!

Rob

Thanks Rob.

If this is the case, we can not have any workaround for the purpose of schedule a continuous meeting without voice-port reserved in schedule but can have the number of participants of all the availiable voice ports to join the meeting?

Thanks,

JJ

Hi JJ,

You are correct. If you use the Zero-Port method rather than the Continuous Meeting you do not have to reserve ports and all available voice ports in the system can be used.

Hope this helps!

Rob
