Gateway no longer exists. Any impact on cisco 3500 ?

Hello,

Nice simple one. I think.

I have inherited a network in the following state. A single subnet linked by various cisco switches and routers typically cisco3500 etc.

I am currently replacing our ISP and as a result changing the gateway for the clients. This means the existing gateway will become defunct.

I cannot get into most of the switches on our network but believe that the gateway may be specified.

So two questions bearing in mind that the only traffic I want to go out through the new gateway will be users internet traffic.;

1) Do I need to specify the new gateway in my switches on the network ?

2) If the existing soon to be turned off gateway is specified in the switches etc will this cause any network issues once the existing gateway is removed ?

Thanks

Neal

Hi

No u need not specify new gateway in u r switches.

Gateway on the switches is used to access them from different subnets.

i dnot think there will be any impact on the network.

Thanks

Mahmood
