Solved: SFPs on 2960-8TC

Does anyone have one of the new 2960 switches with a 100FX fiber SFP operational. I just got one of these, and found in the fine print that is does not support the GLC-GE-100FX, but the way it is worded, it sounds like it could possibly support the GLC-FE-100FX - but that would be doubtful. See the below text:

Table 3-1 lists the cable specifications for 1000BASE-X and 100BASE-X SFP modules available for the Catalyst 2960. Catalyst 2960 SFP ports can use both GLC-GE-100XX and GLC-FE-100XX SFP modules. However, the Catalyst 2960-8TC and Catalyst 2960G-8TC switches do not support the GLC-GE-100FX SFP module.

Hello,

Just checked it for you. GLC-FE-100FX (100BaseFX) is supported on 2960 compact switches. You can use it on the 2960-8 port model switch and you will be fine with it.The same module is also supported on 3560 compact model switches.

The link you pointed to says this on the fifth Q+A so that is not correct and my question still stands - but thanks anyhow.

Hello,

I think I overlooked you question.Thanks for making me understanding it.I tried to look at the compatibility matrix for the 100MB SFP module sheet and the new 2960-8TC is not listed there.It has all the other 2960 modesl listed.

I got the new transceiver in yesterday, and it does in fact work on the new 2960-8TC.

I think it would be helpful if the documentation stated that the GLC-FE-100FX works in the new switch instead of implying that it works by saying the GLC-GE-100FX does not work.

In any case, my problems is solved. Thanks for checking into it.
