NM-1T3/E3 card probl

I've physically installed a new NM-1T3/E3 card into our Cisco 3660 router currently running c3660-jk9s-mz.122-32.bin software. It has 64Mb RAM and 16Mb Flash. The problem is that our router does not seem to recognise the card. This is apparent from show ver and show diag:

Slot 1:

Unknown (type 837) Port adapter

Port adapter is disabled deactivated

Port adapter insertion time unknown

EEPROM contents at hardware discovery:

According to Cisco's data sheet I need a minimum software version of 12.2(11)YT. Isn't the software I'm using newer than that? Can anyone suggest a later version which supports this new module with the constraints of RAM/Flash identical to my router? Many thanks - need some help here.

Hi

Though you have the advances version of ios installed in your router the code might not have the support for the card installed in your router.

You may required to go for other feature set which can support the hardware installed.

You can use the above link to find out the exact ios file name to be there in your router..

Thanks for the reply. I have already used both tools before I posted this. The Software Advisor actually suggested that I used that version in my router now. However, it still refuses to work, and the router is unable to recognise it. Anyone who has such a setup ( a Cisco 3660 router with a NM-1T3/E3 module) running successfully, please let me know what IOS version you're running..

Thanks,

woon

Hi,

12.2(32) does not have the features of 12.(2)11T. The difference is the "T". In other words, it "older".

To understand this, you should read about Cisco IOS image naming and release process.

I suggest you upgrade to the latest 12.3 or 12.4 available on CCO.

Hope this helps, if so please rate posts

Hi Woon,

The minimum IOS code to support the NM-1T3/E3 module is 12.2(11)YT. That IOS is a special code of the 12.2T family. Please check the IOS roadmap for more details:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/620/roadmap_b.shtml

If you click on 12.2(11)YT you'll see the description of that IOS release:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/620/ios_12_2_11_yt.shtml

On the section called "Recommended Customer Migration Path" you'll find the migration path of that special IOS, which is the 6th release of 12.2T or 12.3 mainline.

I'll suggest going to 12.3 if your router supports that release.

Hope it helps you understanding better the IOS migration path.

Regards,

Juan

Thanks to everyone for their input. I looked through the documents that you listed - didnt realise that it was a special IOS version. I decided to use the Cisco Feature Navigator tool again, but this time specifying the search by Feature, and a more accurate software version was found. Turned out I could only use the Telco version of the IOS:

IOS (tm) 3600 Software (C3660-TELCO-M), Version 12.3(22), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

The rest was either incompatible, or didn't have the features I required (802.1q trunking, NAT and clear-channel E3/T3). I've downloaded this new IOS version and it's now working fine.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful insight in this :-)
