VLAN Config

Unanswered Question

HI Experts,

Just a quick question.

What is the recommened way to configure a VLAN on a catalyst?

sw#vlan database

sw(vlan)# Vlan 10

or

sw(config)#vlan 10

Config mode or Vlan database mode???

My new 642-812 book says the former, but i always configure the latter.

Some clarification would be great.

Regards

Stephen

I have this problem too.

When I go into my new 3750's and type vlan config I get:

Switch#vlan database

% Warning: It is recommended to configure VLAN from config mode,

as VLAN database mode is being deprecated. Please consult user

documentation for configuring VTP/VLAN in config mode.

So....it looks like they want config mode.

Hey,

Thats exactly what i got also. In the new BCMSN ciriculum, the SWICTH(config)#vlan 10

command seems to be the way forward.

If anyone can shed any light on this i would be grateful.

i.e.

Is this now the offical way to configure a vlan?

What Catalyst IOS did this take effect?

When is the VLAN database command being phased out?

Thanks

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

You can configure vlans from vlan database but cisco recommends the newer way of configuring vlans from config mode.

I think that some newer switches and routers wont allow you to use vlan database. So, its a best idea to start configuring vlans from config mode. Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Haroon
