Rip version 2 is hybrid protocol or distance vector protocol

Hi,

i want to know whether Rip version 2 is hybrid protocol or distance vector protocol.some books are saying it is distance vector, and some other books are saying hybrid.

It's definitely a distance vector protocol, there's nothing in it that would make it anything else.

RIPv2 is a distance vector protocol, you

probably confused it with EIGRP which is

indeed considered as a hybrid protocol in

many sources.

One of the major difference between distance

and link-state protocols is with the first

ones router shares information about directly

connected neighbors and with the link-state

ones about directly connected links.

RIPv2 is essentially the same protocol as

RIPv1 (which is distance-vector)but has

number of improvements such as subnet mask

in updates, authentication, multicast,tags

and etc.
