When will release the ASA 5500 Series OS 8.0?

I am using three PIX 506E 6.3 in main office & outside shops, and want to purchase two ASA5505 for our new shop.

I find "Cisco ASA 5500 Series 8.0" in the Cisco->Security and VPN Product page, but can't find any other information about this new ASA 8.0.

I want to know when will Cisco release the ASA 5505 8.0? If I buy two ASA 5505 now, but the version is 7.1 or 7.2, can I free upgrade to the ASA 8.0 when it is release? And does the ASA 5505 8.0 support connect VPN to the old PIX 506E?

The hardware of the PIX 506E is Intel Celeron 300MHz CPU and 32MB PC-133 SDRAM, does the new ASA 5505 also using the Intel Celeron CPU and PC-133 SDRAM? Or the ASA 5505 has been upgraded to the new Intel P4 CPU and DDR RAM? How fast is the CPU Speed?

Thanks!

ASA 8.0 is coming out soon.

If you purchase the 5505s now, then they are licensed for whatever software comes on them. If you also purchase a SmartNet contract (for support) then that also entitles you to software upgrades (including 8.0). If you do not purchase the SmartNet contract then you must purchase the software upgrades.

The hardware on the 5505 is an AMD Geode 500 MHz processor with 256 MB of RAM. Cisco does not support any memory upgrades on the 5505.

The data sheet on the 5505 is located here:

hey david,

where can we find the cpu information of all the asa's.

the data sheet does n't specify that/nor ur page i guess.

Cisco isn't documenting the CPU specs anymore, as the performance numbers are what really counts.

David.

Hello Sushil.......we do have a link available which talks about the real time performance summary of ASA..in terms of threshold throughput and cut off CPU Usage of ASA ...i might not be able to post it here , however if you need any detail information related to it please feel free to discuss it in inhouse forum

Just for an example here is one of the output from that tool

Platform Version Test Result Mbps Delta* CPU

PIX-515E 7.2.1.31 PASS 28 100.00% 99%

PIX-525 7.2.1.31 PASS 119 100.00% 85%

PIX-535 7.2.1.31 PASS 199 100.00% 97%

ASA5510 7.2.1.31 PASS 63 100.00% 98%

ASA5520 7.2.1.31 PASS 137 100.00% 95%

ASA5540 7.2.1.31 PASS 194 100.00% 92%

ASA5550 7.2.1.31 PASS 426 100.00% 95%

Will we can purchase the ASA 5505 8.0 in April?

The hardware on the 5505 is AMD Geode 500MHz CPU with 256MB RAM, does the performance is better than the PIX 515E Intel Celeron 433MHz with 64MB RAM?

In the ASA 5505 data sheet, the Firewall throughput is 150Mbps and VPN throughput

is 100Mbps, is this a bidirectional(In + Out) throughput?

Does has any information about unidirectional throughput? Only has half performance(75Mbps)?

And I also want to know the Firewall throughput in the 64Byte packet size? Is the 150Mbps Firewall throughput based on the 1500Byte packet size?

Thanks!

Hi Idolclub,

These questions are best asked to the sales guys (Cisco SEs and Account Managers).

The performance of the 5505 is better than the 506E. The 150Mbps firewall throughput is not based on 1500 byte packet sizes. It can achieve this performance with smaller packets.

Sincerely,

David.
