ASA Failover requirements

I have a ASA 5510 with the CSC10 module and I also have a second 5510 without the CSC10 but with the Security Plus license. I know that I at least need to add the security plus license on the 5510 that has the CSC10 module but since the specs say like hardware will failover work even though the second ASA does not have a CSC10 installed. When I originally talked to pre-sales about the configuration I was told that the ASA with Content Security also included the Security Plus license which I am finding it does not. I was also told that failover would work without having the CSC10 in the second firewall and I would just lose Content filtering until the primary firewall comes back up. Is this a true statement?

Hi mwkirk,

Unfortunately, it sounds like you are getting a lot of misinformation. Sorry about that.

For failover to work with the ASA, you must have identical hardware and software license. This means that the Secondary ASA needs the CSC-10 module and the Sec Plus license.

Sorry about that.

Sincerely,

David.
