HP printer on private IP space

We recently installed some 4500 series routers and are utilizing public and private ip space with vlans. If an HP (only HP) printer is on the private IP space everybody except the users on the same private IP space can print to it. If we put it on public IP, it is usable by all. We have tried updating firmware on the printer to no avail. Besides replacing all HP printers to a different brand, does anyone have any ideas as to what may be the problem?

this doesn't sound like a printer issue. can you be more specific of the ip address space? 4500 series routers or switches?

4500 routers, and only HP serires printers with jet direct cards. IP address space is 10.x.x.x for private, and our assigned IP space for public

We are in a similar state, however, we are on 6513 switches, and address space is 172.16.3.0. Lastly the printer is on slot 3, the pc is on slot 3,5,7,9, or 11. Printing is fine from the pc attached slot 11 and fails elsewhere. All ports appear to be configured the same. Also all Layer 1- 4 traffic appears to work. Pings and telnet via port 9100 (raw lpr port) all connect fine. I can telnet to the printer and see its settings, no errors on the switch or printer... Nothing appears unique about the Cisco ports that I can find. Any enlightenment?
