Hi all, can anyone tell me the main protocols that are used by voip, and the one i should look out for on my network when monitoring ?

Carl,
UDP is the protocol mainly used for VOIP traffic.It uses random ports from 16K -32K and uses the same to transport the voice traffic.

It uses the following
RTP - real time protocol (UDP as mentioned above)
Skinny - TCP 2000-2002
H.323 or MGCP for gateways

can you explain to me what each is used for ? ie how call is setup, what protocol it uses for this etc ?
