Adding a new switch

I have taken over a relatively simple network which has 2 cisco catalyst 2950 switches with 48 ports each. these are full and i need to add another switch to the network can i add a Cisco Catalyst 2950SX Switch with 24 ports? if so could someone please advise me on how to do this?

Friend,

The most simple setup would be to connect the new switch to any one of the old 2950 switches through a cross cable.

If you are runing VTP, then a trunk can be created to pass on the VLAN information to this

Hi

If you are running VTP already then make sure you don't overwrite your vlan information when you install the new switch.

Best thing to do if you are using VTP is put the new switch into VTP transparent mode. Then connect it to your other switch, set the VTP domain name and set the mode to client.

It will then pick up the existing vlan information from your other switches.
